About Christina Shaw
I'm Christina Shaw, your Stow City Councilwoman At-Large. I'm running for re-election in the Nov. 2, 2021 election.
Let me tell you a little about myself:
I'm a lifelong Stow resident. I grew up here, graduated from Stow-Munroe Falls High School (Class of 1988) and raised my children here.
I studied Communications at Kent State University and enjoyed a rewarding career in fashion merchandising, as an outside sales rep for several companies and eventually as a senior account executive for Donna Karan and Tom Ford, leading a team of more than 200 salespeople.
Over the past 5 years, I've been elected or appointed for various local boards and committees, that work toward the betterment of our region. These activities include:
- The Final Farewell Project Board of Directors;
- Elected 27th State Central Committeewoman for the Ohio Democratic Party;
- Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD);
- American Cancer Society 2020 Ambassador;
- Community Advocate for Villa West;
- Democratic Precinct Committee for Summit County at Central Committee Member Ward 3;
- Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America;
- Past President of the Stow Democratic Club;
- Steering Committee for the Summit County Democratic Party.
I'm a proven leader and I'm not afraid of hard work. But, that's just part of my story.
I'm also a cancer survivor. I was a pretty strong person before my diagnosis, but that 11-year battle made me even stronger.
Through my faith, the strength of my family (especially my mother) and friends and incredible medical teams, I have survived and am now in full remission. It was a journey I would not wish on my worst enemy, and, yet, I do believe I've developed some insights that helped me become an even better person.
I've learned to treasure every single day. For so long, I didn't know if there would be a next week, so I don't put off till next week what I can get done tomorrow.
I've learned to appreciate the small things in life and all the people around me.
More than anything, I've learned that I don't want to waste any more time. I've come through this struggle with a real desire to make my life mean something more, by giving back to my community to help make it a better place those who live here now and into the future.
Legislation Proposed and Passed
I have kept my promise and commitment to the City of Stow regarding full equality for everyone by proposing the following legislation:
- 2020-90: Promote Equality
- 2020-125: Renaming of Silver Springs Lodge in honor of Mrs. Leona Farris
I'm committed to fight for full equality for everyone. I will continue to uphold the values to end discrimination in the areas of education, employment, healthcare, and more. I will combat biases that limit opportunities in economic, political, and social situations.
Community Support During the Pandemic
When the Covid pandemic hit, my mother and I sewed more than 2,100 masks that we provided at no charge as a way to give back to our community.
My priorities and responsibility to the City of Stow is to do what is best for the residents by providing wise and reasoned counsel regarding the administration of our city, including our parks, roads, buildings, sidewalks and more.
But, as an elected official, I'm doing more than pass legislation. I’m an active member of our community, helping those less fortunate in our city, such as partnering with Bulldog Bags to raise money for gift cards for the holidays, delivering turkeys during the holidays purchased through donations, working with the homeless in various communities and helping seniors, especially during the pandemic.
I launched the #lovewins project to focus on making women in our community feel special and loved and a “pay it forward” campaign.
Healthcare and the well being of others during the pandemic has been a large focus of mine.
I will continue to keep my promise about communicating with residents by returning phone calls within 24 hours.
I will maintain the excellent relationship I've nurtured with the administration and our safety forces and will continue working with them in a positive manner to enact measures that make sense for our city.
